Day 85, Saturday, January 28th, 2017. Lon 62º 41 S. Lat. 61º 04 W. On board the research vessel Hespérides.

If I were to say to you that we fished from the edge of the crater at Deception Island specimens of Halicarcinus planatus and some Boeckella copepods, you wouldn’t know what I am talking about. But if I told you that we caught crabs and sea urchins, then you might understand. The INACH divers managed to fill several test tubes, after many hours exploring the rather slimy Foster Bay, because the Halicarcinus planatus is tiny, about the size of a lentil, and takes many lentils to fill a single test tube.
